Small quantities of domestic bonded asbestos, such as shed or garage roofing or guttering, can be dismantled and disposed of by a licensed contractor. A current list of licensed contractors is available from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Alternatively, householders may dismantle it themselves by following HSE guidance on non-licensed work with asbestos.
We advise you to securely seal your asbestos waste.
This can be done as follows:
- pack it in UN-approved packaging with a Carriage of Dangerous Goods (CDG) hazard label and asbestos code information visible
- If possible, use a red inner bag with asbestos warnings, and a clear outer bag with the CDG label (these bags can be bought online for example through B&Q or Amazon)
- Do avoid breaking up large pieces of asbestos waste. Instead, double wrap and tape it using if possible 1000-gauge polythene sheeting and label accordingly.
