Concerns raised by residents about vehicular anti-social behaviour at Colchester Leisure Park at Northern Gateway have led to swift action from Colchester City Council, with new CCTV and enforcement activity already helping tackle the issue.
Colchester Leisure Park has quickly become a popular destination for leisure, entertainment and family activities. While the vast majority of visitors use the area responsibly, residents raised concerns about a small number of late-night vehicle gatherings causing noise and disruption.
The council responded by introducing a package of measures designed to address the problem and protect both residents and visitors.
Swift action delivering results
New CCTV cameras installed at the multi-storey car park are now fully operational and helping officers in identify vehicles linked to anti-social behaviour.
Since February, the council has issued 52 Fixed Penalty Notices for breaches of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) at Colchester Leisure Park. A further five notices are currently being issued following a recent incident, with additional enforcement action expected as officers review the recently installed CCTV footage from other reported after-hours car gatherings. Businesses in the area have also played an important role by reporting incidents to Essex Police, helping build a clearer picture and informing ongoing enforcement activity.
Management of the car park has also transferred to the North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP), which will allow the council to patrol the area with in-house Civil Enforcement Officers.

"The overwhelming majority of visitors use the site responsibly and show consideration for others. Our swift action here responds to residents' concerns about noise nuisance from a specific type of late-night vehicle meet-up that is banned across Colchester, helping to ensure this great location can continue to be enjoyed by everyone."

Residents are encouraged to report anti-social behaviour through Essex Police online here or by calling 101 in a non-emergency, or 999 in an emergency. Accurate reports help officers build evidence and respond quickly when issues arise. ASB can also be reported through Colchester City Council here.
The council will continue working with partners to ensure Northern Gateway remains a welcoming destination for residents, visitors and businesses alike.
