Families across Colchester are invited to step into a prehistoric adventure this summer as Colchester Leisure Park, part of Colchester City Council’s Northern Gateway development, hosts a free Family Dinosaur Day on Sunday 26 July, from 11am to 4pm.
The leisure park will be transformed for the day, giving children and their families the chance to meet friendly, life‑like dinosaurs roaming the site alongside their expert keepers. With plenty of opportunities for interaction, photos and hands‑on fun, it promises a memorable day out for dino lovers of all ages.
The event will feature a packed programme of free activities, including:
-
Meet the prehistoric dinosaurs and their babies up close
-
Interactive sessions with keepers, including fun facts about what dinosaurs like to eat
-
A range of themed family activities throughout the day
-
Special promotions and prizes from leisure park venues and restaurants
With a wide mix of leisure and dining attractions on site, visitors can make a full day of it, enjoying everything the park has to offer while soaking up the lively atmosphere.
Conveniently located just off Junction 28 of the A12, Colchester Leisure Park is easily accessible for families travelling from Colchester and across Essex.
Cllr Alison Jay, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Transformation and Digital at Colchester City Council, said: “This is a fantastic free event for families in Colchester and beyond. It’s a great way for children to enjoy something a bit different, spend time together and make the most of everything Colchester Leisure Park has to offer.”
Emma Parkin, from the Colchester Leisure Park marketing team, added: “We’re delighted to be bringing this dinosaur‑themed day to Colchester. It’s all about creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere where families can enjoy free entertainment and discover everything the leisure park has to offer.”
This free event is expected to be popular, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early to make the most of the day.
Families visiting Dinosaur Day at Colchester Leisure Park can continue their prehistoric adventure in the city by visiting Discover: Museum Wonders at Hollytrees Museum. Colchester Museums is currently displaying Juliasaurus, the first real dinosaur skeleton ever shown in Colchester. Standing over six metres long and making its public debut, Juliasaurus offers a rare opportunity for dinosaur fans to see a real fossil up close as part of a wider family day out.
