Homeowners in Colchester can now access a new council-backed scheme designed to make it easier to explore solar panels, battery storage and electric vehicle charging for their homes.
Colchester City Council has partnered with MakeMyHouseGreen, a specialist solar provider, to give residents access to free online tools, expert advice and a £600 discount on eligible installations.
The scheme aims to help homeowners navigate what can often be a confusing market by providing information on solar technology, estimated energy savings and installation options.
Residents can use MakeMyHouseGreen's online calculator to receive an initial assessment based on their property and energy use. Those who wish to proceed can access advice on solar panels, battery storage and electric vehicle chargers, as well as a £600 discount negotiated through the partnership. The discount is also available to businesses and community buildings in Colchester.
Councillor Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Environment and Heritage, said: "Many residents tell us they are interested in solar energy but are unsure where to start or how to find a reputable installer. This partnership gives people an easy way to explore their options and understand whether solar could work for their home.
"It's part of our wider commitment to help enable residents to make sustainable choices and help homes become more energy efficient"
Llewellyn Kinch, CEO and Co-founder of MakeMyHouseGreen, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Colchester City Council, with a shared aim of helping more households in the city generate their own electricity and cut their bills. The £600 discount makes going solar that bit more affordable for residents who decide it’s right for them.”
Residents are encouraged to do their own research and obtain comparative quotations before making any significant home improvement investment.
