This unique after-hours event invites participants to gather their party and step into a world of adventure within one of the city’s most iconic historic settings

The sellout Knightzzz at the Museum returns for Easter!

Colchester Museums has partnered with Colchester Adventure League to bring an exciting evening of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), puzzles and immersive roleplaying to Colchester Castle, taking place on Saturday 27 June from 6pm to 10pm.

This unique after-hours event invites participants to gather their party and step into a world of adventure within one of the city’s most iconic historic settings.

Step into the story

Taking place within the dramatic setting of Colchester Castle, the evening will feature a specially created adventure, The Siege and Storm of Castle Camulos. Participants will work together to solve puzzles, face challenges and navigate a rich, interactive narrative brought to life by experienced hosts.

Dungeons & Dragons, one of the world’s most popular tabletop roleplaying games since 1974, continues to captivate audiences across generations. With its presence in popular culture—from Stranger Things to Baldur’s Gate 3—the game has seen a resurgence in popularity, and this event offers the perfect opportunity to experience it first-hand.

Whether completely new to D&D or an experienced player, attendees will be welcomed into a collaborative and imaginative environment where teamwork is key and no two adventures are ever the same.

An immersive and unique experience

Players are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the evening by dressing in costume, enhancing the immersive atmosphere of the event. With puzzles to solve and unexpected twists throughout the night, participants can expect an engaging and memorable experience within the atmospheric surroundings of the Castle.

Who can attend and what’s included

The event is suitable for ages 18 and over. Support can be requested in advance, and attendees are encouraged to submit any questions ahead of the event for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Tickets and how to book

Tickets are priced at £15 per person and can be purchased online via Colchester Museums’ website. Spaces are limited, and early booking is recommended.

Pamela Donnelly, Colchester City Council’s Chief Executive, said: “This partnership brings an exciting new way to experience Colchester Castle. Combining immersive storytelling with the historic setting creates a truly memorable event, whether you’re a long-time Dungeons & Dragons fan or trying it for the first time.”

Colchester Adventure League spokesperson said: “A venue like Colchester Castle is a dream for any dungeon master. The exhibits and the history has allowed our group to weave an evening’s entertainment which will feel immersive. We hope to demonstrate all the best parts of Dungeons and Dragons, with a story built on local folk lore and history."
