Final weeks to experience Mythical Creatures at Colchester Castle

Time is running out for you to step into a world of legend and wonder!

A stylized illustration of an old stone castle on a hill, framed by leafy green branches. In the foreground, a large blue-green dragon with yellow accents emerges from swirling mist. In the sky to the right, a golden griffin with outstretched wings flies above the castle. A winding path leads up the hill toward the castle entrance.

Colchester Castle’s spectacular family-friendly exhibition, Mythical Creatures, is in its final weeks and will close on Sunday 22 February 2026

Don’t miss your chance to encounter dragons, unicorns, griffins, and mermaids brought vividly to life through rare artefacts and stunning displays. Highlights include extraordinary objects on loan from the British Museum, Natural History Museum, and Colchester Zoo – from a griffin’s claw to a unicorn’s horn and even a Cyclops’s skull.

Plan your visit this February half-term for an unforgettable day out! With interactive storytelling, fascinating objects, and plenty to spark imaginations, it’s the perfect family adventure before these legendary creatures depart.

Councillor Lee Scordis, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Environment, said: “Mythical Creatures has been a wonderful addition to Colchester Castle, delighting visitors of all ages. If you haven’t experienced it yet, now is the time – make the most of the final weeks and enjoy a truly unique exhibition before it closes.

“Whether you’re captivated by legendary tales or fascinated by ancient myths, Mythical Creatures is an exhibition you won’t want to miss.”

Entry to the exhibition is included in standard Castle admission.
