Families looking for exciting ways to entertain curious young minds this May Half Term are invited to Colchester Museums from 23 to 31 May. Across Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum and the Natural History Museum, visitors can enjoy a packed programme of creative activities, hands‑on history and playful learning for all ages.
A major highlight is the new ‘Discover: Museum Wonders’ exhibition at Hollytrees Museum. May Half Term is the perfect opportunity for families to see the city’s first‑ever real dinosaur skeleton! At the heart of the exhibition is Juliasaurus, a striking six‑metre fossil on public display for the first time! Timed ticket entry is in operation for the Discover exhibition and tickets must be pre‑booked online in advance. Visitors to Hollytrees Museum can also explore the pop‑up Dino Store, offering dinosaur‑themed books, toys and gifts for dino‑fans of all ages.
Throughout May Half Term week, families can also enjoy a wide range of activities at Colchester Castle including Roman‑themed family tours, gallery games and our ‘Knightzzz - Roar and Snore’ sleepover as well as dinosaur fossil crafts, under 5’s storytelling sessions at the Natural History Museum.
School holidays are also an ideal time to take advantage of the Colchester Museum Pass, which offers unlimited entry for a whole year to Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum and the Natural History Museum—perfect for return visits at weekends and during future school holidays.
Pamela Donnelly, Colchester City Council’s Chief Executive, said: We’re delighted to be welcoming families to Colchester Museums this May Half Term for a programme packed with discovery, creativity and fun. From meeting Juliasaurus – an extraordinary dinosaur skeleton – to hands‑on crafts, storytelling and Roman adventures, there’s something to spark curiosity in visitors of all ages.”
