What the grant funds

This page outlines the funding priorities, what applicants should consider, and what the grant can and cannot be used for.

The health and wellbeing grant will fund services that meet criteria A, B, C and/or D as outlined below:

A. Focuses on addressing the Healthy Weight Strategy for Essex and Colchester

B. Focuses on addressing and improving Mental Health 

C. Addressing Health Inequalities 

D. Improving the lives and independence Older People

Projects/organisations that are well networked locally and joint applications are welcomed. This can include working collaboratively to achieve the shared outcomes.

We expect projects to consider the following documents and information when applying:

Public Health Business Plan and the Essex Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy, and local health and wellbeing strategies.

What can the funding be spent on?

This list does not include everything. Should you have any questions, contact us: communities@colchester.gov.uk

We can fund:

  • equipment
  • staff costs
  • training costs
  • transport
  • volunteer expenses

We cannot fund:

  • retrospective costs
  • contingency costs, loans, endowments or interest
  • paying someone else to write your application for you
  • profit-making or fundraising activities
  • VAT you can reclaim
  • religious activities (we can fund religious organisations if their project benefits the wider community and does not include religious content or “recruitment”)
  • statutory activities
  • activities that help children or young people with their schoolwork during school time
  • overseas travel
  • projects that take place outside of Colchester and/or UK
  • activities that make profits for private gain
  • cash that will be given directly to individuals.
