Bus
Colchester has an extensive network of bus services provided by First Bus, Arriva and Konectbuses (previously Hedingham & Chambers).
There is currently a £3 cap on single bus tickets. However, you should check all ticket options, as you may find a cheaper fare for regular journeys. Options include Tap & Cap on First Bus and the Colchester Borough Card, which can be used across providers.
Visit Travel Essex or download the app to plan your journey, track your bus and keep up to date with service information.
Train
With multiple stations in and around Colchester, travelling by train is convenient, especially for longer journeys. Colchester Station and Marks Tey Station are on the Great Eastern Main Line between London and Norwich. Colchester Town and Hythe stations provide connections towards the coast via Wivenhoe.
Train services are operated by Greater Anglia. You can buy tickets for any journey on their website or app. Consider combining rail travel with walking, cycling or bus services to avoid parking costs at the station.
Check whether you are eligible for railcards or discounts to get the best value ticket. You can also add unlimited bus travel to your rail ticket with PlusBus. Full details of discounts and offers are available on the Greater Anglia discounts page.
Park and Ride
Colchester Park and Ride is located off junction 28 of the A12 at Northern Gateway. It provides a frequent, comfortable and direct service into Colchester City Centre.
You do not need to park at the site to use the express service. You can board and alight at stops along the route. The journey from the Park & Ride site to the city centre takes approximately 13 minutes.
Key stops include Colchester Hospital, Colchester North Station and Middleborough (for The Octagon), as well as the city centre. Find route maps and full ticket prices on the Park and Ride website.
