Visitors are invited to experience deep relaxation beneath Luke Jerram's spectacular Museum of the Moon installation as Colchester Castle hosts two immersive Reiki Sound Bath events this September and October.
Taking place within the historic walls of Europe's largest Norman keep, the sessions offer a rare opportunity to experience wellbeing, sound and reflection beneath the awe-inspiring six-metre lunar artwork, which is on display at Colchester Castle until 31 October 2026.
A unique experience beneath Museum of the Moon
Suspended within the Castle's atmospheric surroundings and measuring six metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:600,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 6km of the moon’s surface.
The installation has captivated visitors around the world and provides a striking backdrop for these special evening events.
The Moon has inspired artists, writers, scientists and cultures for centuries. Set against this remarkable artwork, participants will be invited to slow down, reflect and reconnect in one of Colchester's most iconic historic spaces.
A partnership 15 years in the making
The Reiki Sound Bath will be led by local wellbeing practitioners Amanda Anderson, founder of Akasha Yoga and Wellbeing, and Chia-Yen of Reiki Chia, a Reiki Master Teacher and Hypnotherapist.
The collaboration marks a full-circle moment for the pair, who first met more than 15 years ago when Amanda attended one of Chia-Yen's Reiki courses. They now bring together their combined experience to create a unique wellbeing experience beneath the Moon at Colchester Castle.
Sound, relaxation and reflection
Guests will be guided through an immersive evening combining sound, meditation and relaxation techniques.
Amanda's carefully curated soundscape features planetary gongs and crystal singing bowls, creating layers of sound and vibration designed to encourage calm and reflection. Chia-Yen will combine Reiki, guided relaxation and shamanic drumming to help participants unwind and immerse themselves in the experience.
Together, the event brings contemporary wellbeing practices into conversation with internationally acclaimed art and nearly 1,000 years of history.
Councillor Darius Laws, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Environment, said: "Colchester Castle continues to provide new and inspiring ways for people to engage with our heritage spaces. These Reiki Sound Bath events offer a unique opportunity to experience the internationally renowned Museum of the Moon installation in a completely different way, bringing together art, wellbeing and history in one of Colchester's most iconic settings.
"We are proud to support a varied programme of events that encourages residents and visitors alike to discover the Castle, connect with culture and enjoy memorable experiences within this remarkable historic landmark."
Amanda Anderson and Chia-Yen said:
